A few months after German e-tailer Limango signed logistics company Rhenus to establish their European distribution center in Goleniów near Szczecin, another Western European ecommerce investor has recognized the area's potential. At the cost of PLN 30m, Danish fashion retailer SmartGuy Group A/S, is to build a large logistics center in Goleniów with plans to create 150 jobs by August this year.
The NASDAQ OMX Copenhagenlisted SmartGuy Group is a major European online retailer of fashion apparel with a leading position in the Nordic region. They carry more than 1,000 brands which are offered throughout most of Europe via their StylePit fashion portals. SmartGuy has local websites in more than 15 countries with local offices or actual subsidiaries in Sweden, Norway, Germany, the UK, Russia, the Netherlands, Finland and now Poland.
Smart Guy representatives said their decision to move the warehouse unit from Denmark to Poland was a result of the rapid growth of their business, with the Golewniów location offering optimal conditions for further expansion in Europe, offering sustainable competitive advantages. SmartGuy has recorded a steady and substantial sales growth in its sales, resulting in growing need for additional logistics capabilities.
"To maintain the upward trend, it is indispensable to increase the warehouse area. The competition in European e-commerce will be intensified in the coming years, and we want to prepare the SmartGuy Group A/S to be among the strongest e-fashion retailers in Europe," said Marc Jeilman, Group Director at SmartGuy Group A/S.
"We look forward to doing more business in Poland based on a positive experience with professional advisors, fast track decisions and a minimum of bureaucracy. We also foresee a strong growth on the local fashion market. StylePit has been active in the Polish internet fashion market via the website www.stylepit.pl for more than 6 months now - and the company is experiencing strong growth in the local market. We aim to be the leading e-fashion retailer in Poland," adds Jeilman.
Similar to Limango, SmartGuy has teamed up with an experienced logistics operator to handle the development and operations of the Goleniów distribution center. Their partner will be Germany's Fiege. Through StylePit Poland, their newly-established Polish subsidiary, SmartGuy Group, has already acquired a warehouse and office facility, located in the Goleniów Industrial Park. The building, with a total usable floor area of 14,000 sq.m, will be completed by July and in August the new distribution center is to start handling orders, with all other functions to be operational by January next year. The investor plans to expand the building by another 10,000 sq.m, which is likely to result in additional job creation.
